VANCOUVER — The 24th annual World Partnership Walk raising awareness and funds to fight global poverty is being added to the list of the province’s 150th-anniversary celebrations, the B.C. Ministry of Tourism, Sport and the Arts announced Thursday.
The Vancouver walk will begin at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park on May 25, and in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria the same day.
Since the walk was founded by the Aga Khan Foundation in Vancouver 24 years ago, it has raised more than $40 million, and last year alone $5 million was collected to fund education, improve health care, increase rural homes and build community organizations in Asia and Africa.
Other upcoming B.C. 150 events include the Cowichan 2008 Spirit Pole Tour — a 13-week tour by First Nations totem carvers — the Vancouver International Children’s Festival from May 12 to 19, and the 13th Vancouver Chinatown Night Market.
