ISLAMABAD: Hashoo Foundation Chairperson Ms Sarah Hashwani has announced that the Hashoo Women Foundation’s Honey Bee Farming project was featured and highlighted during the poverty alleviation session at the 2007 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) at Hashoo Foundation, the first event in Washington DC.
Hashoo Foundation’s “Commitment to Action” will empower women in northern Pakistan and enable them to provide for their families in a sustainable and dignified way through the training, microfinance, and access to markets. Each year, Clinton Global Initiative links presidents and prime ministers with businesses, non-profit organisations and foundations to tackle challenges in global health, education, poverty alleviation and climatic change. Hashoo Foundation is committed to sharing the success of this project and helping develop strategies with other leaders so that women economic empowerment can be a reality in the region.
The event was organised to raise awareness of Hashoo Foundation objectives in the United States.
Hosted by Mrs Rifat Mahmood, it was attended by more than 120 guests, representing various sectors, including Karen Aguilera, US Department of State Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs; Zubair Iqbal, International Monetary Fund; Rob Buchanan, Council on Foundations; Iqbal Noor Ali, CEO, Aga Khan Foundation USA; George Allen, Ex-Governor Commonwealth of Virginia, among other distinguished guests.
Professor Adil Najam from the International Negotiation and Diplomacy at TUFTS University was the guest speaker. As the lead researcher of the “Philanthropy by Pakistani Diaspora in the USA” study, he emphasised the importance of institutionalised philanthropy through reputable, transparent and certified organisations like Hashoo Foundation. Hashoo Foundation is certified by the Pakistani Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) for accountability and transparency.
Zahra and Anjum Asharia, Hashoo Foundation Youth Ambassadors representatives shared their experiences working with Hashoo Foundation in Pakistan. They focused on the importance of the opportunity to engage in community service by volunteering in Hashoo Foundation programs to bridge the gaps with their Pakistani counterparts.The Hashoo Foundation embodies the tradition of service to humanity that has run in the Hashwani family for the last six generations. The Hashoo Foundation has now evolved into a development NGO, focusing on economic self-sustenance and poverty alleviation, said Sadruddin Hashwani, Patron in Chief.
