Various Faith Groups in Calgary Canada – Congratulating His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan

Press Release

July 12, 2007

The undersigned congratulate His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan on completing 50 years of leadership as Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community. In Calgary, the Ismaili Muslims (about 10,000), have been committed to improving the lives of Calgarians since establishing their roots in the city some 30 years ago.

His Highness established the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) that is dedicated to health and education, thereby improving the lives of people living in the poorest parts of the world. It is our understanding that this network of agencies has been established in accordance with the ethic of compassion and of caring for the weak and poor, regardless of race, faith, or gender.

In 2005, the Government of Canada bestowed upon His Highness the Companion of the Order of Canada in recognition of his work in the field of development. One year later, His Highness partnered with the Government of Canada to established The Global Centre for Pluralism, to be located in Ottawa. The Centre will promote indigenous approaches to pluralism in national and international communities.

We congratulate the Ismaili Muslim Community of Calgary and pray for their Imam’s good health as he continues his efforts in guiding the community as well as improving the lives of all humans. Peace be with each of you during this Jubilee year and always.
