TD Canada Trust is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2006-2007 TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership valued at up to $60,000 each. From across the country, these young Canadians have made a meaningful and lasting difference in their communities. All of these extraordinary young people share one common belief – one person can indeed make a difference.
Salina Kanji
Turner Fenton Secondary School
Brampton, ON
Salina created a multicultural organization “Education for All, Discrimination For None”, which aims to eliminate cultural discrimination within her local community. With this group, she organized a large multicultural concert to raise funds for UNESCO, and raised awareness about this issue.
She has worked closely with DAREarts and their Centipede Children for Peace Movement when she traveled to Prague with the organization in December 2004. Salina is also an avid volunteer at her mosque.
Salina is student council vice-president, head of production for Culturefest, president of the political discussion club, and enjoys playing the saxophone.
Salina hopes to pursue a career in medicine.
