Agha Khan Primary Introduces Cambridge Programme

AGHA Khan School has started offering a double curriculum syllabus, the chief executive officer, Margaret Bell, has said.

During the award of certificates at the school recently, Bell said both programmes – Uganda National Examination Board’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) and Cambridge International Primary School (CIPS) are offered concurrently.

“We have pupils who are sitting their PLE exams in November under UNEB. But, we have also been certified for our pupils to sit for Cambridge International Primary school programme exams, due from May 28 to 30 this year,” she said.

CIPS is an international programme that caters for teaching of pupils following the British syllabus.

Pupils are taught English, Mathematics and Science. A total of 58 pupils are enrolled for the programme and will sit their final exams from May 28 to 30.

“Their exams are invigilated by officials from the British Council and marked by teachers in UK and results are released in July,” Bell said.

She allayed fears by some parents that the school will drop some pupils due to the new programme.

Bell said students who study under the programme will achieve International General Certificate of Education (IGCE) under the British syllabus.

“Agha Khan is the first primary school in the country to register for the Cambridge international programme. We want to assure parents that we offer one of the best teaching standards in the country,” she said.
