Canada’s First Endowed Academic Chair in Islamic Studies

This is an EXCELLENT video relating to the blog post

http://www.crescentproductions.com/islamic_studies_full.wmv
9 minutes 34 seconds – 11MB

It explores what this chair means to Muslims and the wider community
in Edmonton and Canada, in terms of the diversity of traditions,
cultures and interpretations within Islam. It does this in the
context of Muslim settlement in Edmonton and the history of Islamic
civilizations.

In the video, you’ll find two segments of commentary from Education
Chair of the ECMC, Nashir Karmali, among others. You’ll also see a
diversity of structures, including Edmonton’s Bellereve Jamatkhana.
In the video credits at the end, you’ll find the following names:

Written, edited and produced by Aleem Karmali
Narrator – Sofia Lakhani
Quran reciter- Imran Moloo
One of the music contributors was Karim Gillani and Ensemble
Photograph contributors included Nurdin Dhanani, Asmena Jadavji,
Faisal Karmali (Nashir Karmali’s son), Karim Thomas (an Ismaili from
Vancouver), Anil and Jehan Mawani, Iqbal Nurmohamed, Ismaili Canada
Magazine, etc.

The Ismaili Muslim contribution to this initiative was very significant (the
entire venture of creating an endowed chair and not just the video).
