GENEVA Jan. 28 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Sunday said Pakistan attaches great importance to the investment made by Aga Khan Foundation in Pakistan in various sectors including tourism, banking and services. The Prime Minister was talking to Prince Karim Aga Khan when he met him here during his short stay on his way from Davos to Brussels. Shaukat Aziz appreciating the investment nade by Aga Foudnation said that it has created job opportunities, promoted development and opened up new avenues for income generation.
The Prime Minister gave an overview of the economic development and measures taken by the government to promote investment through creating investment friendly atmosphere in the country.
He said due to the liberal and sustainable economic policies, Pakistan has received over 3.5 billlion dollars direct foreign investment during the first six months of the current fiscal year, which is a record in the country’s history.
Prince Karim Aga Khan appreciating the economic friendly policies of the government said these policies are encourging local and foreign investors.
The Prime Minister also briefed Prince Aga Khan about Pak-India composite dialgoue process and progress made in this regard.
He said President General Pervez Musharraf has floated some proposals in this regard including demilitarization, and some sort of joint management to ensure peace and stablitiy in the region for the welfare of the people.
Shaukat Aziz also discussed situation in Afghanistan with Prince Karim Aga Khan and said that Pakistan wants peaceful, stable, strong and vibrant Afghanistan, as it is in favour of Pakistan and for the region.
Referring to the Palestine issue, Prime Minister Aziz and Aga Khan emphasised the need for dispute resolutions, including Palestine, so that there could be peace in the region. Prime Minister Aziz said there is a need to double the efforts by the world to find a peaceful resolution of the Palestine issue.
Shaukat Aziz especially referred to the recent visit of Presient General Pervez Musharraf to five Middle Eastern countries for having fresh initiative to resolve the dispute.
Prince Karim Aga Khan later hosted lunch in honour of Prime Minister Shuakat Aziz and other members of the delegation.
