Wakhi Cultural Mushaira (Poetry Session) held in Upper Hunza.

While the cold chilling wind blew outside people passionately listened to poets reading out their poems. Within the Karakuram Mountains, in a village called MoorKhoon (The House of Rain, in WAKHI), in Gojal, upper portion of Hunza, near the border of China. Poets of different age and literary propensities participated in this event, giving it a highly pluralist aura.

An interesting fact about Wakhi is that all those who speak this language are Ismailies, in Pakistan and in the regions around Pamir Mountains. Anohter interesting fact about this region, Gojal, is that hundred percent of the people living in this region are Ismailies.

Wakhi Tajik Cultural Association has been organizing cultural events to establish strong cultural and literary traditions in Wakhi. WTCA, as it is shortly called, is the representative body of the Wakh speaking Ismalies of the world. It has members from different corners of Central Asia, including Afghanistan, Tajikistan and China.
