New conservation project for the city of Lahore – help of Aga Khan Trust for Culture

Excerpt:

The pilot project in this mega-project is the restoration of the Royal Passage, connecting the Delhi Gate with the Masti Gate. We hear the funding comes from the World Bank — a sum of US$10 million is being mentioned — and there is also some talk of a major portion of the funds being set aside for a study by an Italian consultant. The Aga Khan Trust has also offered to help, which cannot but improve the scheme’s credit. Even more encouragingly, the project envisions the creation of a permanent body, a sort of municipal authority, one imagines, to carry out the work and to monitor its maintenance and sustenance.
